Z.GROUP Consortium Shortlisted for Guangyang Island Yangtze Culture Academy Concept Design

Recently, our company, in partnership with General Research Institute of Architecture & Planning Design Co., Ltd, Chongqing University, Chongqing Yueji Architects & Associates, and Chongqing Manwu Hotel Management Co., Ltd., was shortlisted for the "Conceptual Architectural Design for the Yangtze Culture Academy on Guangyang Island." The project is located on Guangyang Island, the largest island in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, situated between the Tongluo and Mingyue Mountains in eastern Chongqing. The design scope is located southwest of the western headland hill of Guangyang Island. The architectural design area covers approximately 5.28 hectares, with a gross floor area of 18,000 sqm. Through a three-fold interpretation of the academy's historical archetypes, ecological memory, and site characteristics, the proposal draws on the Sichuan-Chongqing Academy tradition's focus on seeking "selective advantage (Zesheng)" (landscape perspective), "ritual advantage (Lisheng)" (spatial perspective), and "formal advantage (Xingsheng)" (architectural perspective) in its creation concept. Employing a narrative design logic with distinct phases, the plan proposes six planning strategies, ten characteristic scenes, and four distinctive operational modules. The goal is to craft the Guangyang Island Yangtze Culture Academy into a spatial vessel conveying the essence and culture of the Yangtze River, while also serving as an architectural landmark that embodies internationalization, intelligence, sustainability, and humanism.
